How to stay encouraged when you are unemployed

When a person embarks on the path of job search, it’s usually impossible to know how long the journey will be. Hence, within time, the rejections multiply and the savings get divided, resulting in a crestfallen attitude.

There could be two possibilities for an experienced person searching for a job – either, he/she is employed at an organisation and is looking for a new opportunity, or, the person has no job/left job to look for another one (because it is difficult to explore opportunities while handling official duties).

One should start by keeping in mind that perseverance is the key to open the door of opportunities, although you might face obstacles along the way, your zeal for your chosen field or industry will keep you moving – be sure to pick a position that you are passionate about so that you are not derailed, when challenges appear. Set goals and work round it, pick up a pen and a paper and jot down the elements/benefits you want from your job. Create an environment of optimism around you, which attracts and gives out positive energies. It will go a long way in keeping away procrastination, self-doubt and low confidence. Stay positive, stride on things one step at a time, keep connecting with people in your chosen field, and catch the attention of potential employers.

Shortlist the job openings, apply on job portals and also make calls/write emails to the recruiters and the reporting authority – being proactive takes you a long way.

BE RECEPTIVE TO FEEDBACK – Ask for a feedback from your interviewers. Ask someone to have a look through your resume’; if you are rejected at the interview, go that extra mile to find out what went wrong. Finally, improve upon your negatives and add them to your positivity.

DO NOT LET GO OF YOUR CONFIDENCE – I know, the longer you look for a job, the harsher it becomes to survive.
