Tipico Espanõl Restaurante – Buen Provecho

Many years ago, there was one NRI – Mohan Bhargava who gave up an exciting career in the land of dreams to return to his motherland and give something back to society.

While that may have been the story of a critically acclaimed Bollywood movie; a similar story happened closer to home a couple of years ago. Spanish citizen and NRI Ramesh Perumal, who hails from Pune, developed a liking and passion for Spanish cuisine, thanks to his upbringing there.

Managing a chain of electronic stores across Spain but wanting to follow his passion in the food industry, he decided to introduce Western India to authentic Spanish cuisine. Thus Tipico Espanõl – the first ever authentic Spanish restaurant in Maharashtra!

Spain is extravagant, exotic and vibrant! The culture, history and diversity of this country depicts in the excellent food they serve and the fabulous life they live. Be it the bull-fighting traditions in Madrid & Sevilla, “Futbol” or soccer in Barcelona, Flamenco in Andalusia or the gastronomical delicacies found all over the country. Spain is truly remarkable in every aspect.

Tipico Espanõl Restaurante, which means ‘Typical Spanish Restaurant’ is exactly as advertised. Beautiful European feel ambiance, authentic Spanish food using fresh produce and liberal use of olive oil, chefs trained by Spanish master chefs – everything here screams Spanish [rather, in Spanish!! :P]

So when #TheBTeam was extended an exclusive invite to cover this place, we were as excited as Kabir, Imran and Arjun were to embark on their Spanish trip in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. #TheBTeamExclusive

Drinks

The Watermelon Mojito had some real nice flavors of watermelon in the spritzer. My personal favorite of the evening. #DeliciousDelicious

The Raspberry Mojito and Blueberry Mojito had some good flavors but felt the raspberry to be a tad sweeter.

The Kiwi Mojito had typical flavors of the fruit syrup and mildly sweet; was appreciated by all.

Starters

Tortilla Espanola [Spanish omelet] – This was an omelet made with potato and onions and mixed in olive oil. Nice presentation of serving it like a thick slice of cake. Good subtle taste of the potatoes and onions in the omelet. Amazing soft garlic bread as accompaniment. #DeliciousDelicious

We also sampled the Croquetas de Verduras [Crispy Veg Balls] and Croquetas de Pollo [Crispy Chicken Balls] which are fried croquettes of vegetables and chicken. The chef knocked these balls out of the park. Amazing texture of the stuffing with a nice crunchy exterior. Loved the salsa verde served with those. Absolutely finger lickin’ #YumYum #HighlyRecommended

We were also served a trio of ‘al Ajillo’s: Champinones al Ajillo [Garlic Mushrooms], Pollo al Ajillo [Garlic Chicken] and Gambas al Ajillo [Garlic Shrimps] which were iron serving pans of mushrooms, chicken and shrimps with burnt garlic and hot peppers in a pool of olive oil. Marinated and soaked well in the oil, all three dishes were simply top of the line in taste. #YumYum #HighlyRecommended

Nice crunchy garlic bread was served as accompaniment to all three dishes.

Mains

For mains, we had the Paella Vegetal [Veg. Paella] and Paella de Pollo y Verduras [Chicken & Vegetables Paella] which is advertised as sufficient for two. However if you have had a few starters, I’d recommend sharing a paella between 3-4 peeps. Made with rice, green peppers, kidney beans, red pepper, tomatoes, seasonal vegetables, garlic and olive oil with additional chicken in the chicken variant, the paella is deliciously made and very filling. The flavors of all the individual ingredients shone through. #MustTry

Desserts

In desserts we tried the Peach and Apricot Mousse and the ubiquitous Chocolate Mousse. The chocolate mousse was chocolatey and creamy as expected however loved the flavors of the peach and apricot mousse. My first time sampling those fruity flavors together and it was delicious!!! A tad too oversweet for my palate however Ramesh confirmed traditionally the mousse is supposed to be on the sweeter side. #YumYum

The team at Tipico Espanõl have strived to get a piece of traditional yet modern Spain to our very own Pune. Right from their wide range of selected tapas to authentic paella and chilled summer drinks, they have put immense thought and effort to make this restaurant resemble Spain in its world-renowned heritage, food, festivals and beverages.

This place may not be big on space but won’t fall short in making you feel comfortable. The unique feature about this place would be their authentic flavors that they assure to deliver every single time. This place is a must visit for every foodie who enjoys exploring different cuisines.

A big shout out to Zubair and Aatif from ReachOut PR for inviting us and Ramesh and Team Tipico for hosting us.

Tipico Espanõl Restaurante is located at Lullanagar Rd, Kondhwa.
